Camera or Microphone Not Working on Video Chat? Fix It Fast
Most camera and microphone problems come down to a permission or another app holding your camera. Work through these steps in order.
1. Allow the browser permission
The first time you start, your browser asks to use your camera and microphone. If you pressed Block, the page cannot ask again until you change it.
- Chrome and Edge (desktop): click the icon to the left of the web address (a lock or sliders icon), then set Camera and Microphone to Allow, then reload.
- Firefox: click the permissions icon in the address bar, remove the blocked camera or microphone entry, then reload and allow when asked.
- Safari on Mac: go to Safari, then Settings, then Websites, then Camera and Microphone, and set this site to Allow.
- Chrome on Android: tap the icon next to the address, choose Permissions, and allow Camera and Microphone.
- Safari on iPhone and iPad: open Settings, then Safari, then Camera and Microphone, and choose Ask or Allow. Then reload the page.
2. Check your device settings
- Windows: Settings, Privacy and security, Camera (and Microphone). Make sure access is on for your browser.
- Mac: System Settings, Privacy and Security, Camera (and Microphone). Turn your browser on.
- Phones: check that the browser app has camera and microphone permission in the phone's app settings.
3. Close other apps that use the camera
Only one app can use a camera at a time on many devices. Close Zoom, Teams, Meet, Skype, OBS and any other browser tabs that may be using it, then reload.
4. Reload and try another browser
Reload the page. If it still fails, try a different current browser such as Chrome, Edge, Firefox or Safari. Disable extensions that block camera or scripts, such as strict privacy or ad-blocking add-ons, for this site.
5. Check the basics
- Is a physical camera cover or privacy shutter closed?
- If you use an external webcam, is it plugged in firmly and selected as the default?
- Restart your device if nothing else works.
Microphone-specific fixes
- Check the microphone is not muted by a hardware switch or keyboard key.
- Pick the right input in your system sound settings, especially if you use Bluetooth headphones.
- Use headphones to avoid echo or feedback.
- On Jusslive, camera access is required to start but the microphone is optional, so you can still use video and text if the microphone is unavailable.
The other person looks black or frozen
That usually means their camera or connection has a problem, not yours. Press Next to meet someone else. A weak connection can also cause freezing: move closer to your router or switch from mobile data to Wi-Fi.
Still stuck on "Finding someone"?
That is not a camera problem. It means nobody who fits your filters is online right now. Try the country filter on Worldwide and wait a little. See how matching works.
